The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Known as 160thSOAR is the elite Aviation unit within the entire Department of Defense, Its missions have included attack, assault, and reconnaissance, these missions are usually conducted at night, at low altitudes, high speeds, and on short notice. Nicknamed the Night Stalkers also known as Task Force Brown. It was founded it 1981; over 45 years ago. The branch is the Army, but it is used for all operations within USSOCOM. The 160thSOAR has conducted over 20+ engagements so they will not be named here. There is 4 main aircraft in service, The Boeing CH-47 its used for Transport and Combat search and rescue, there are 71 in service with Variants like the MH-47G. The Sikorsky UH-60 it is a utility aircraft, there are 72 in service with Variants like MH-60L/M. There is the MD500 Defender it is used for Light attack there are 47 in service with Variants like AH/MH-6. There is the General Atomics MQ-1 Used for Surveillance, there are 12 in service with Variants as of MQ-1C. There are a total of 5 Battalions, as of 160thSOAR, Used mainly for training. 1st Battalion used for assault and CAS, the 2nd Battalion, used for Heavy asssault and transport. The 3rd Battalion, Heavy and medium assault, And 4th Battalion used for heavy assault and reconnaissance.
